Life in Sydney

Sydney is a vibrant and dynamic city which has been named the “World’s Best City” eight times by Travel and Leisure magazine.

The city’s population is currently estimated at 4 million people. Sydney is famous for its diverse ethnic mix with half of its residents born overseas and almost 30% of the resident population speaking a language other than English. Apart from English, the most common languages spoken at home are Chinese, Indonesian, Greek and Russian.

Sydney is renowned for its range of fine dining restaurants and contemporary cafes catering for all tastes of international cuisine. Discerning diners can’t go past Sydney’s own Spanish Quarter - the best spot around for tapas, tostadas, tortillas or paella, washed down with a jug of sangria, and the buzz of Chinatown offers exotic choices of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean and Japanese food. The Sydney Fish Market by the water is a fun and relaxed place to eat fish and chips, sushi, chilli crab, freshly shucked oysters and to watch the boats and the pelicans.

Magnificent waterfront dining with a superb selection of food can be found at Sydney’s Circular Quay, with the stunning backdrop of Sydney’s famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge.  Nearby are charming old shops, pubs and cafes that line cobblestone streets in The Rocks, which is part of “old Sydney”.

Embark on a world-class shopping experience in Australia’s leading shopping destination - Sydney. Whether it be the markets that you interested in or the up-market department stores, Sydney has much to offer. Large department stores and shopping centres are scattered through all major Sydney suburbs. |

Sydney has some exceptionally beautiful natural areas and open spaces situated within the city. Much of the natural heritage that remains in Sydney has a colourful past dating back to the first European settlers. Other gardens and open spaces are more recent additions to the cityscape, providing sanctuary from the day to day city traffic and hustle and bustle.

Sydney’s climate is pleasantly moderate. Average temperatures and rainfall are as follows:
